Mike Petrusky:

As the great 80s band Depeche Mode said, “People are people.” We have many common goals and fears when it comes to our professional journeys, so that’s why I focus so much on community building. I think we’re going to be there for each other, and I believe this podcast can be a place where you find some inspiration. This is the Asset Champion podcast, where we talk with facilities, maintenance and asset management leaders about the industry trends and technologies impacting your organization. This show is powered by the iOFFICE Asset Division, delivering easy to use maintenance management software tools to help you drive powerful asset performance.

Mike Petrusky:

Hi, everyone, and welcome to the very first episode of the Asset Champion podcast. I am your host Mike Petrusky, and I’m so glad that you have found this brand new show. Now, I know that every podcast or gets on the mic right away and says, “Hey, I really appreciate you listening. Please remember to rate, comment and subscribe to this podcast.” But I really mean it when I say, “Hey, I really appreciate you listening. Please remember to rate, comment and subscribe.”

Mike Petrusky:

But seriously folks, thank you for checking us out. I realize that there are countless choices out there these days, so much content out there, everyone battling for your attention. So I hope that with this podcast, we can bring you certainly something of value, but do it with a little bit of a unique approach. Of course, I am hoping we can be a source for some really good information about the many, many facets of this very big topic around asset management.

Mike Petrusky:

Each week, I will be interviewing experts in this field, and as I do, I will be learning, as much as you are, if not more, since this discipline is actually very new to me. That’s why, here at the outset, I have to say, honestly, I am both excited and a little bit nervous about the launching of this show. That’s right. I’m not afraid to admit it. The first episode of a new podcast is the one that helps determine if the show is right for you. I have just a few short minutes here to convince you that this particular podcast is actually worth your time. No pressure on me, right?

Mike Petrusky:

Well, that’s just one reason that this is such a big moment for me. I am definitely venturing outside of my comfort zone here. But my philosophy has always been, especially during these fast-changing times, that we must be comfortable being uncomfortable. We need to be open to trying new things while learning and adapting to the world around us. So for me, it’s this topic of asset management that is relatively new, not the talking on the podcast part. In fact, this will be the third podcast that I’ve worked on overall, and one of two current shows that I will now have the privilege of producing for you each and every week. It’s going to be a whole lot of work, but I really do love what I get to do here.

Mike Petrusky:

And actually that reminds me, there may be some listeners out there who already know me from my previous broadcasts. If that’s you, welcome, and thank you so much for keeping up with what I guess we’ll call, the continuing adventures of DJ Mike P. I appreciate you following me and checking out this new show here. And for those of you that might not yet know me, all you really need to understand is I love music, especially U2. I’m a really bad singer, although that doesn’t stop me. And I love Star Wars. So I’m sorry in advance, but you might hear me talk about that. I’ve always wanted to be a broadcaster since way back in my college days so that’s where the nickname DJ Mike P originally came from.

Mike Petrusky:

But I’ve been podcasting since 2016, and when I joined iOFFICE a couple of years ago, I was hosting a show at the time called The Facility Management Innovator podcast, where I encouraged everyone to be an FM innovator. And that evolved into what is now the Workplace Innovator podcast, where we have a focus on FM, corporate real estate, and enhancing employee experiences. So actually, there are close to 200 episodes available out there now, which is pretty mind blowing for me when I say that out loud. But here we are, now I get to start podcast number three. With it comes this awesome opportunity to build a podcast community around this pursuit of understanding and practicing the discipline of asset management. And I’m really excited about it.

Mike Petrusky:

Now, what you’ll find all my podcasts have in common, is that while we do talk about technology and trends and strategies, really, they all are, first and foremost, about humans, the people in our industry. People just like you, sharing their stories and their experiences with us, and the inspiration that comes from hearing about how these leaders got to where they are today, the challenges that they have faced and the insights they’ve gained throughout their careers, is really what I find most interesting. These stories can help us. If you’re like me, you’re eager to learn. They’ll help us navigate the path that lies ahead in our journey, wherever that is taking you, as we discover what it will take to become, what I’m going to call, an asset champion. That is what this show will be all about.

Mike Petrusky:

So I’m thrilled now to, in a way, return to my roots and explore more conversations around facilities and maintenance and assets, since those have always been core competencies of the FM profession. But what I have learned very quickly, as I’ve been doing my research to prepare to launch this show, there is so much more out there in this larger world of asset management. It’s about asset performance, which impacts a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, energy, and transportation companies. I’ve learned about the asset managers out in the field who are under constant pressure to do more with less, while trying to reduce depreciation, downtime and replacement costs. I will be asking my guests to talk about emerging trends in asset management for fleet, construction, manufacturing, and facilities. And we’ll be exploring the high level strategic discipline of asset management.

Mike Petrusky:

But we’ll also plan to have some in depth discussions around preventative maintenance, work order management in both equipment and fleet maintenance. As I mentioned, I don’t know much at this point about all the technical details, but what I do know, is as the great 80s band Depeche Mode said, “People are people.” We have many common goals and fears when it comes to our professional journeys, so that’s why I focus so much on community building. I think we’re going to be there for each other. And I believe this podcast can be a place where you find some inspiration during challenging times. And maybe, just maybe, we might even provide you with a little entertainment along the way as we go.

Mike Petrusky:

One thing I know for sure, is I know I have a lot to learn and I hope that you will join me on this podcast adventure. It will be quite a ride because I’m on a mission to discover new things and gain a real understanding about all these terms and concepts that I’ve been reading about so much over the past few months. Things like asset strategy, criticality, reliability, uptime, asset culture, the industrial internet of things. So much I need to get my head around. So I’m really hoping that you’ll join our community here and encourage me along the way.

Mike Petrusky:

I certainly don’t even know what I don’t yet know. So if there’s something on your mind, something that I can help investigate, learn more about, you can email me directly at podcast@iofficecorp.com. But in the meantime, hey, please remember to rate, comment and subscribe to this podcast, as we gather each week to connect you with some of the amazing industry leaders that can inspire you to be an asset champion. Peace out.
